K. S. Chithra
K. S. Chithra, also known as Krishnan Nair Shantakumari Chithra, is an Indian playback singer who primarily works in South Indian films and has also sung in other Indian languages like Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. She was born on July 27, 1963, in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India.
Chithra started her playback singing career in 1979 with the Malayalam film “Attahasam”. Since then, she has recorded over 25,000 songs in various Indian languages, making her one of the most prolific and versatile playback singers in the Indian music industry. Some of her popular songs include “Maniye Manikuyile” from the Tamil film “Kizhakku Vasal”, “Pudhu Vellai Mazhai” from the Tamil film “Roja”, and “Payalein Chun Mun” from the Hindi film “Virasat” among many others.
Chithra has won numerous awards for her contribution to Indian music, including six National Film Awards for Best Female Playback Singer and several Filmfare Awards. She has also been honored with the Padma Shri, one of India’s highest civilian honors, for her contribution to the arts. Chithra continues to be an active playback singer and also appears as a judge in various music reality shows.
