Barkat Sidhu
Barkat Sidhu was an Indian Punjabi folk singer known for his contributions to the Punjabi music industry. He was born on November 18, 1946, in the village of Talwandi Salem, Punjab, India and passed away on May 18, 2009.
Barkat Sidhu started his singing career in the 1960s and became known for his unique and soulful voice. He was particularly known for his renditions of Punjabi folk songs and Sufi poetry. Some of his popular songs include “Kehnde ne naina”, “Aazma ke vekh layi”, and “Tut gayi yariyan” among others.
Barkat Sidhu was also a trained classical musician and had received training in the Patiala gharana of Indian classical music. He was known for his versatility as a singer and had also sung in other Indian languages like Hindi and Urdu.
Barkat Sidhu’s contributions to Punjabi music have been widely recognized, and he has received several awards and honors for his work. He was awarded the Shiromani Sangeetkar Award by the Government of Punjab in 2003, and posthumously, he was awarded the Punjabi Legend Award in 2016.
