Sadhwi Majumdar
Sadhwi Majumdar started learning Kathak at the age of six under the guidance of Guru Pandit Shambhu Maharaj, who was a renowned Kathak dancer and choreographer. She later went on to train under other prominent gurus, such as Birju Maharaj and Kumudini Lakhia.
Sadhwi Majumdar has performed extensively in India and abroad, including in countries such as the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Europe. She is known for her graceful movements, intricate footwork, and expressive facial expressions, which bring out the beauty and depth of the Kathak dance form.
Sadhwi Majumdar has also been involved in several cultural initiatives to promote Indian classical dance forms. She has served as the director of the National Institute of Kathak Dance in Delhi and has also been a member of the jury for several national and international dance competitions.
In recognition of her contributions to the field of dance, Sadhwi Majumdar has received several awards, including the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, the Kalidas Samman, and the Padma Shri, which is one of the highest civilian honors in India. She continues to be actively involved in promoting and teaching Kathak, and inspiring the next generation of dancers.
